Recognising Good Ideas

 Sonic The Hedgehog

I chose this game because I like to take inspiration from things I love and add my interpretation of what I'm taking inspiration off. Sonic has quite expansive world and has a underwater labyrinth and that can link directly into my project. I was introduced to sonic through my parents trying to connect with me through video games and now It reminds me of that parental love and trying to connect with me and just giving me a warm feeling. What I find Sonic does very effectively is world building and making vast and interesting characters. Definitely with it's levels as there a huge amount of them. The one I feel that links to my projects the most is Labyrinth Zone. I think Sonic can be improved by being a more consistent quality in the levels themselves as Sonic throughout the franchise has very inconsistent quality so people getting invested into Sonic will be put of by there very low quality games like Sonic Forces.

Sonic mains strength is it's feeling of going fast. Sonic's whole gameplay is about going fast and that's what sold. When Mario was dominating the market of platformers, Sega wanted to rival that and made sonic. Unlike Mario at the time, Sonic felt refreshing and cool. Sonic was filled with personality and flare. This gap in the market for a competitor for Mario was filled and Sonic quickly become a giant in the gaming world, Sonic allows the audience to go fast but you were rewarded with by keeping that momentum, making executed jump feel so rewarding. But Sonic's quality started lacking and couldn't keep the momentum going forward. Sonic hit a untapped market while riding on the idea of these new things called video games. I believe it hit the market at the right time. Sonics is shifting and is now a multimedia franchise and is tapping into different ages and audiences. Sonic is still one of the faces of gaming and yet a niche at the same time. Everyone knows Sonic but not everyone indulges into Sonic like Mario.

Five Nights at Freddy's 2

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 or Fnaf 2 for short is my favourite game in the franchise, I was introduced by a friend which knew I was petrified by horror as a kid and loved it ever since. Fnaf 2 made me more interested in horror as a genre. This game has heavy lore in it's details and for designing and worldbuilding take from a franchise that adds details and links to it's history almost everywhere, I would like to link that to my project and as Egyptian have a lot of arts and hieroglyphics that can give us details of what could be going on in Egyptian times. The believe that the story through the detail of this game is amazing. It feels like almost everything has a reason or a story to tell. This invested me and a lot of other people to this game franchise. I think Fnaf 2 or Fnaf as a franchise as a whole could do better is be more expansive with it's gameplay and keep the scarier and grittier style which is part of it's identity.
