Recognising Good Ideas - Kyle Smith

Image
Recognising Good Ideas  Sonic The Hedgehog I chose this game because I like to take inspiration from things I love and add my interpretation of what I'm taking inspiration off. Sonic has quite expansive world and has a underwater labyrinth and that can link directly into my project. I was introduced to sonic through my parents trying to connect with me through video games and now It reminds me of that parental love and trying to connect with me and just giving me a warm feeling. What I find Sonic does very effectively is world building and making vast and interesting characters. Definitely with it's levels as there a huge amount of them. The one I feel that links to my projects the most is Labyrinth Zone. I think Sonic can be improved by being a more consistent quality in the levels themselves as Sonic throughout the franchise has very inconsistent quality so people getting invested into Sonic will be put of by there very low quality games like Sonic Forces. Sonic mains strengt...

Who is Who? Yashar Kassai - Kyle Smith

Image
Who is Who? Yashar Kassai  ^ Yashar Kassai  Yashar Kassai is a concept artist who has worked for films like Into the Spiderverse, Michells vs the Machines and The Angry Birds Movie. The reason why I chose Yashar Kassai is because he has helped to create my favourite movie and one of the most influential animated movies, Spiderman Into the Spiderverse. I can't describe how much Into the Spiderverse has affected my life and how it will affect it going forward, but writing about someone that you has inspired you with their work is always better than doing it about someone who hasn't. Yashar hasn't just inspired me with Spiderverse but with Michells vs the Machines as that is a movie I have high regards for.   ^Yashar Kassai About Yashar Kassai: Yashar Kassai is a concept artist while being mainly a production designer the difference. Yashar Kassai has been in the industry for 16 years, with his earliest work being Open Season 2 in 2008. Yashar Kassai was only a ma...

World Building - Kyle Smith

World Building World building is a fundamental for telling a story. Best excises to help us with world building are:  Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? This gives depth to ideas and fleshers out the idea and making it feel real or engaging. Who? : Who gives the design more linked to a person and how they look and reflect from each other. For example "who is driving that car?" Or "Who are there parent?" This can make a family just trying to design one girl or gives vehicles or object a owner and that can affect how the owner or object is designed which correlates to each other. What? : What does this thing do or what do they do? This just gives the thing a purpose, making it feel useful. When? : This can give your design history. The can be make it seem interesting and engaging. This can give the deign a certain feeling like old and rugged or stable and unimageable.  Where? : This does the same as when but the environment affects the design and not the history. This ...

Designing a game world 100 Initial Artworks

Designing a game world: Initial  Art By Kyle Smith                                   I wanted to start with the dungeon entrance. I feel like a dungeon underwater shouldn't be a massive entrance. The idea of making it hidden so it could feel like you could also find a dungeon underwater. I believe it makes it more immersive as a undiscovered dungeon that's not obvious to spot compared to a massive undiscovered building which anyone with eyes could point out it's there. Because in African culture a lot of things are rounded like I stated. So making a boss arena, I wanted to make a rounded arena. It's harder than I thought to be honest to draw this. When sketching I released it reminded me of a gladiator battle arena. I thought for a second that gladiators arenas are based in Rome in Europe then found The Amphitheatre of El Jem in Tunisia. It was built by romans after conquering it's land...
